“Every king springs from a race of slaves, and every slave had kings among his ancestors” -Plato

Back in the 17th and 18th centuries, it was to believe that only white people can act as beauty models in art work. My project is here to change that old convention, and to apply that “beauty” upon black people, who, at that time, were slaved and bereaved of basic human-rights.

In this project of mine I photograph black people who live Israel, while referring to elite portrait paintings from that era.

While having a dialogue with them, I adjust the outfit and the lighting individually to each and every model, and create the right background to go with. All costumes are hand-made by me, using a variety of materials such as fabric, safety pins, construction paper and a stapler.

Wether shy or proud, troubled or smiling, that is all part of who they are and a reflection of their inner world, which I respect and love.
